Fear Doesn't Have to Win
Wow. It's been a while since I've written a blog post, and it feels great to be back! I'm telling you what. Fear is a nasty little devil. Y'all fear is not from the Lord. Do not allow the enemy to steal your joy and riches. What I mean is that, on the other side of the fear you're facing, is something the Lord is trying to give you. For example, me and this blog. I have been pushing this off and making excuses and living in fear. Now that I've decided that fear doesn't get to win, I have a confidence I wouldn't have if I was still allowing fear to win. And not even just confidence, I am not living with the side effects of fear.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment."
- 2 Timothy 1:7
You have to understand that fear is not really about the fear. It doesn't come from God, and that's all we really need to know. So, whether it's coming from the enemy, or our own self-sabotage it doesn't matter. God has good and perfect gifts for us (James 1:17), and he doesn't give as the world gives (John 14:27). Anything that is trying to stop us from getting to the things God has for us, isn't really about us being afraid or fearful, it's really about stopping you from reaching the things and places that God wants you to be at.
Fear is a false narrative that God never spoke. God only has good and perfect gifts for you. So, the gifts and plans He has for your life can't be bad, or detrimental to you. God doesn't give as the world gives. So, where you may have received a bad gift before from someone, or someone has given you something to embarrass you, God can't do that. Not that he could but he won't. He literally can't.
Whatever fear you have in your life, allow God's love and promises to flood your heart and mind. Whatever that thing, idea, or vision you have that God has given you, know that He can only give you good gifts. Don't allow fear to win. I know this is super easy to say, but in reality when thoughts of fear are flooding you, this is easier said than done. So, how do we fight fear?
- Ask for more of God's love. You can't really comprehend that God has good things for you, if you don't understand how much He loves you. When you understand how much God loves you and that He would never do anything to bring harm to you, fear dissipates on its own. Perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18).
- Understand the power of scripture. Scripture is powerful and sharper than any double edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). If you're like me that verse was confusing to me not too long ago. I'll have another post about that verse soon. Because scripture is powerful, we need to use it like a weapon against the spirit of fear. Start making a list of scriptures that apply to the fears you face. So when you face fears of the future, you will have a weapon to fight it. If you have fears about not having enough, you need to find some verses about the treasures and promises God gives His believers. If you have fears about the future, you need to find some verses about how God only has good plans for you, and how he has never broken a promise.
- Get around other believers. Fear is kind of like a snowball effect at times. If you don't catch what's happening and you don't realize what's going on. Fear will have you spiraling in unbelief and have you trapped in defeat, which just leaves you isolated but yet still wanting help but because of the fear you don't want to let anyone else in. I'm telling you, you have to get around other people, and not just anybody. You need to get around some people with faith, people that will speak life and scripture over you. I'll do a blog on the value of community in the coming weeks!
